May 13, 2012 — The Victory That Overcomes the World
video audio In the fourth verse of our text, we find three words that come from the same Greek word group. The verb is nikao which means “to conquer,” “to be victorious,” or “to overcome.” The noun is nike which means “victory.” With this in mind, St John preaches to us, saying, “Everyone who has been born of God overcomes [nikao] the world. And this is the victory [nike] that has overcome [nikao] the world—our faith.” In the very next verse, he also speaks of victory. He says, “Who is it that overcomes [nikao] the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

May 6, 2012 — Connected to Jesus
video audio Today I want to preach a sermon that everyone can understand. It’s for children from nine to ninety–nine. So children, I have a question. Have you ever cut off a flower to show it to your mom? I know I did when I was young. How long will that flower stay beautiful? Only for a while, right? Then it will turn all brown and ugly. It turns ugly because, when you cut it off from the plant, it can’t receive any more food or water. So it dies. How sad!
